A bit of quiet time

October 9th, 2008 Todd No comments

Recovery was top priority this week. After a weekend of constantly going I needed some down time. And I got it!

However there have been a few ‘exciting’ things this week. Monday I went to the Imperial War Museum. It’s quite a different type of museum. They have a few hands one demonstrations such as the trench fighting and air raid shelter. They were more plastic than an American made car, but did offer a bit of insight into what it was like. They also have a very well done unit on the Holocaust. I recommend that anyone who gets a chance to go through just that, do it! And this is all FREE.

Wednesday evening I spent the evening at the Apple Store. This is becoming a regular occurrence. They have agreed to fix what needs done to my computer, but it will take two weeks. HECK NO! So right now I have improvised with a big chunk of plastic hanging out of the side of my computer. IT WORKS THOUGH!

Today was a walk around the West End of London, mainly Soho for class. There were a few cool tidbits that were pointed out. I’d like to revisit that area to true out some pubs! I also saw Explorer #3 while in London. I’ll post the picture in the Cars album. Explorer #2, a white and gray one, escaped because I was caught without a camera.

Tomorrow I plan to head to the Science Museum. I’ve wanted to go there since day 1. I’m finally going to get to go!! Saturday afternoon I go with CAPA to take a ‘flight’ on the London Eye. So definitely stay tuned Saturday evening for pictures.

Until then folks…

A touch of royalty

Today was a big day! One of the items to my to-see list was Buckingham Palace. Unfortunately it is only open until the 28th of September so I thought I should get that out of the way as soon as possible. I seemed to be the only one interested so I got up this morning and off I went. The tour took me through the state rooms used for guests at the palace. This is also included seeing the Ballroom. This year, and this year only I guess the Ballroom was set for a state banquet. It was quite extraordinary seeing the tableware set exactly. There was a short film on how everything was prepared and measured for perfection. The ceilings in Buckingham are fantastic. The detail and design in each is outstanding. Unfortunately photography was not allowed inside. I did get a couple snaps of the rear of the palace and the gardens in the rear. Be sure to check them out!

I moved on from Buckingham Palace to the Regent Street Apple Store. This was another item on my to-do list. Its amazing the size of the store and the number of people in there. There’s a picture of the outside and one of the inside in the Buckingham Palace album.

I forgot the mention that the sun had come out at this point in the day. It was very nice to see it’s lovely rays once again. I missed it!

Next was the Mayor’s Thames Festival. It stretched quite a distance down the river from London. There were many little stands set up selling everything you could imagine. I did snag a £4 hamburger (a bargain!) and quite a few sights.

After that I headed back north to my flat for some R & R! My feet are hurting!
